Basic
Training Clinic(Level I)- Note: These are by APPOINTMENT ONLY
Location - Oregon
Outback (Lake
County, OR)
This clinic can be given anywhere there is an
appropriate training area.
Time - Saturday & Sunday 0600 - 1000 each day (4 hours per day, 8
hours total, one weekend)
Cost - $200 per person - *

4 persons maximum per training session. Controlled training environment.
Course materials provided.
Although each person or team should have a cart and their own gear with
sufficient dogs to pull the distance of the course, it is not necessary.
We can provide dogs and equipment.

the Winter schedule depends on inclement weather and our Winter Training
Clinic I and II course schedules. |

The Winter training
scenario focuses on skills for the trail.

Saturday
0800 1100 Basic training of working dogs, including care and nutrition.
1100 1230 Lunch Break
1230 1530 Working Dog Equipment and basic dog sled driving, backcountry
skiing, skijor, snowshoe and Pulk training
1530 1600 Break
1600 1700 Snow camp meal
1800 1930 Discussion of miscellaneous training material and survival
skills
Sunday
0630 0800 Snow camp meal. Care and feeding of dogs.
0800 1100 More basic dog sled driving, skijor, snowshoe and Pulk
training

1200 Prepare for departure
We provide two mountaineering
tents and 4 subzero sleeping bags and mats. We will provide the water
collection and food. Students must have appropriate
Winter Clothing.

Please note
that these training seminars are not intended to replace other types of training
available like SNDD's Mushing Clinic or Mushing Boot Camp. This is intended
to give individualized training to very small groups or individuals only.
Winter
Training Clinic II (Level II)- Note: This training clinic is by APPOINTMENT ONLY
Location - Lake County, Oregon actual location to
be determined by snow levels.
Unless you have had previous backcountry experience, Winter Basic Training
is a prerequisite to this training.
Time - 2-3 days, snowcamping in the backcountry
focusing on dogsledding,
XC skiing and snow-shoeing. This will involve up to 25 miles of backcountry
travel depending on location.

We provide tent and subzero sleeping bag with mat and meals and eating utensils
4 person maximum per training session and each person or team must have a sled
and gear (including XC skis and appropriate boots) with sufficient dogs to pull
your sled and gear.
The Winter training consists
of setting up a snowcamp and dog sled training, backcountry XC skiing (including
use of a pulk sled) and use of snow shoes.
We provide mountaineering tents and subzero sleeping bags and mats. We will
provide the water collection and food. Students must have appropriate
Winter Clothing.
This is a continuation of the Winter Basic Training. It reinforces
much of the same skills, but focuses more on application of previously learned
techniques.

When finished with clinic, navigator should be able to:
Understand basic topo maps,
Understand shooting azimuths, declination and resection,
UTM on a topo map by GPS obtained coordinates,
Judge distance traveled through pace counting,
Bottomline...know where you are on a topo map using GPS or compass
and get from point A to point B.
